LETTER: Cycle paths are in the transport plan

In light of recent correspondence suggesting that Bespoke, the cycle group, has been bullying the Borough Council into building new cycle routes, such as the promenade, I re-read the East Sussex Transport Plan 2011 to 2026.

It predicts that with an increased population, especially around Polegate and Willingdon, the road network will come under pressure. Although there are a limited number of cosmetic road improvements suggested it accepts that there is little space for new roads.

The plan proposes increased cycle infrastructure and express bus routes.

The latter requiring bus only lanes and to fit them in presumably removing parking on the routes.

So based on their strategies and plans, far from being neutral on cycling, all the councils are strongly in support of sustainable solutions and would be rolling out improvements regardless of any pressure groups.
