LETTER: Counting cost of failing ‘club’

In reply to MEP Catherine Bearder’s letter [Herald, October 16], those wishing to leave the EU are FOR regaining control of the way in which our country is governed, so that our laws are made by those politicians we elect to Westminster, instead of by the unelected bureaucrats sitting in Brussels.

We are FOR making our own trade deals in our own interests which, as a traditionally global trading country and the sixth largest economy in the world, we are more than capable of doing.

We are FOR an amicable trading arrangement with our European neighbours, as is enjoyed by a number of states outside the European Union.

We are FOR a country which has full control of its borders and can choose to take in those immigrants who will play a full part in our economy.

We are also very much FOR the opportunity of using the £55 million per day which we at present hand over to the EU as our subscription to this failing ‘club’, for repairing our troubled NHS, improving our creaking infrastructure, and taking better care of those struggling to keep their heads above water in our country.
