LETTER: Compassion of station staff

Following the catastrophic meltdown of the train service to London Victoria of April 30, I should like to thank Andy, the Relief Manager, and Ian, a long-standing employee at Polegate Station.

They showed me care, concern and genuine compassion during my attempted weekly chemotherapy trip to hospital in London.

They had scant details themselves of the problems at Victoria when I arrived soon after 9am but, despite many fraught commuters, they both displayed patience, calmness and professionalism to all those waiting for news of trains up to London.

They could see the level of my distress and explored many avenues on their personal iphones to try to find alternative routes for me. In a world where people are so quick to criticize and complain, I felt it my duty to redress the balance and report what an asset they both are to our local railway line. Thank you both very much.
