LETTER: British drivers absolutely mad

On a recent holiday in Greece we decided to hire a car. We were warned that the drivers over there were ‘absolutely mad’ and that we should take the utmost care.

How right the warnings were!

Drivers speeding well in excess of limits, rude, inconsiderate driving, no indicating (especially at busy roundabouts), drivers parking in disabled bays without displaying relevant signs, drivers ignoring people wishing to cross at pedestrian crossings, parking on pavements so that people with wheelchairs or pushchairs had to step into the road ... the list goes on.

Ah, but no ... this wasn’t in Greece; this is what we experienced when we returned to dear old England, from the moment that we drove out of Gatwick Airport!

So, a warning to anyone from abroad who intends to holiday in this country and hire a car ... the British drivers are absolutely mad!
