A local councillor, who shall remain nameless, informed me that when the matter of cycling on the prom is raised in the council chambers it is brushed aside by the ruling Lib Dems.
I mentioned this in an email I sent to the council along with one or two other points about this poisoned chalice.
In reply, I received no denial of the claim nor indeed any answer to the points I’d made other than a referral to engage in the current online proposals for the future of the seafront etc.
So, what are we to make of this? A council which cares not enough of its townsfolk to answer them properly? A decision on seafront cycling which appears to have been already made?
And what of the cyclists who already flout the current ban? There is NO-ONE to prevent them doing so. Put up all the signs you like, claiming cyclists will be fined. But if no wardens are on hand to police them, do you imagine these cyclists will suddenly become law-abiding?
So, is this it then? I suggest that all of us who do not wish cycling on the prom extended write to MP Caroline Ansell as she suggested in last week’s Herald. And Bespoke? Let them go back to doing what they do best – tailoring made-to-measure suits!
