The question posed in last week’s Vox Pop might have included the courtesy of ‘Lady Thatcher’s funeral’ rather than merely ‘Thatcher’s funeral’. The laying-to-rest had taken place only two days earlier.
Since the question was asked about the cost of the funeral, it is worthy of a fuller answer
In her time Margaret Thatcher clawed back a total of seventy-five billion pounds of our money from the European Union, or whatever the set-up was called in those days.
One can imagine how much that would equate today, some 25 years on.
Given such an amount of saving, a cost of £10 million for her funeral is by any measure a good deal and provides only one of many reasons why it was worth every penny.
