ON Saturday, September 29 the Friends of the Eastbourne Hospitals joinforces with the Rotary Club of Eastbourne to present the Ball of the Fall at the Winter Garden, Eastbourne. This is a follow-up to highly successful Spring into Action Ball of March 2011 – the biggest event of its type ever held in Eastbourne. This year, we want to make it bigger and better.
The Friends continue to support the valuable services provided by the District General Hospital. This year, all proceeds generated by the Friends will be used as part of their campaign to raise £180,000 to create an Assessment and Treatment Cardiac Suite within the DGH.
Currently 40 per cent of urgent and emergency medical admissions have symptoms which may indicate a heart condition. This suite will enable such patients to by-pass A&E and the Medical Assessment Unit (MAU) so they receive appropriate investigation as soon as possible after presenting at the hospital.
This will enable those shown to have a heart condition to receive urgent, potentially life-saving, treatment at an earlier stage, while others may be reassured and even discharged home. This will bring significant benefits to patients and, at the same time, relieve some of the pressures on A&E and MAU to the benefit of staff and other patients.
Meanwhile, the Rotary Club of Eastbourne is celebrating 90 years of service to the community, which has benefitted many local charities and thousands of individuals within the local area. What a great way to celebrate – providing further service to the community!
We want residents to be part of this very significant event and when we open the suite be able to say “I helped do that”. Further details from the Friends Office at the DGH on Eastbourne 417400 ext 4696.
