Food banks in 21st century?

IN A report in the Independent newspaper, tens of thousands of benefit claimants will be referred to food banks.

The coalition government is apparently worried that many Britons face a stark choice, starvation or feeding themselves by begging or stealing.

The Trussell Trust, a Christian charity, forecast they will feed somewhere between 90,000 and 100,000 this financial year and they expect 30-40 per cent of those to be caused by problems over benefits.

Did we ever believe that in 21st century British people would have to rely upon soup kitchens, and charity handouts?

I certainly thought this was Dickensian Britain or the 1930s. There has to be a better solution especially when some are reaping millions in “bonuses.”

How many of these must also be in Eastbourne which can be no exception to the trend caused also by government cuts and job losses?
