Food banks are an insult

David Cameron in his Christmas message said: “However you celebrate this time of year, it is my hope and prayer that you have a happy and peaceful Christmas.” He has also used his New Year’s message to declare that Britain is “heading in the right direction”

Where are we heading when we have the Prime Minister telling us that Food Banks are indicative of his much lauded ‘Big Society’ and a local York Conservative Councillor Chris Steward telling the York Press: “The fact some give food to food banks, merely enables people who can’t budget (an issue where schools should do much more and I have said the council should) or don’t want to, to have more money to spend on alcohol, cigarettes etc. There is certainly no need for food banks; no-one in the UK is starving and I think food banks insult the one billion in the world that go to bed hungry every day.”

So it seems that we have the PR man David Cameron giving us the ’happy words’ and a representative of the rank and file Conservatives perhaps telling us the true opinion of the Tories.

Ed Miliband is probably right when he says, “Same old Tories”
