Everyone had a ball for charities

On behalf of the Friends of the Eastbourne Hospitals and the Rotary Club of Eastbourne may I use your columns to express our gratitude following the Spring into Action Ball at the Winter Garden on Saturday March 5.

What an evening and what a great result for our charities with in excess of £20,000 raised on the night.

This will make a significant contribution to the Friends’ fundraising for a Clinical Information System within the Intensive Care Unit.

The provision of such a system will not only improve record keeping but, by being automated, will reduce the amount of “form filling” for the nursing staff giving them more time at the bedside and with patients’ relatives.

This support from local businesses and individuals is greatly appreciated – and it was fun too!

Such evenings do not just happen and we are indebted to the organising team and the backing we have received in the way of support and sponsorship.

The event might not have happened had we not received the kick start we needed with the generous sponsorship from Denise Greaves and etc Magazine and subsequent publicity through the Eastbourne Herald.

That gave us the impetus we needed and with the Winter Garden identified as the venue, I cannot praise Convex Leisure enough with the support we received both in the build up to and on the night itself.

The Winter Garden was transformed thanks to Audrey from adesign who produced the magnificent artwork, Push Studios turned them into reality, whilst About Poppies and Flutterby Events provided the table decorations giving a spring like atmosphere.

The charity auction with many fabulous, generously donated items was a great success thanks not only to the bidders but also to West End Studios who provided the plasma screens and Cavendish Communications the telephone network.

A special thanks must also go to our many volunteers who helped on the evening and without whom we would not be able to do as much as we do. But, our biggest thanks must go to those who attended the evening – there was a real buzz around the Floral Hall and I hope you all had an enjoyable evening. As someone remarked this is Team Eastbourne at its best.

Thank you all very much.
