Eastbourne is poorly served by recycling

I recently had cause to visit the Reuse and Recycling Centre in Peckham, South London and it made me realise how poorly served the residents of Eastbourne are by the Household Recycling Centre in St Phillips Avenue.

Peckham is a densely populated area of South London and the facility there is completely covered in what looks like an average size industrial unit and access is by car up a ramp and then rubbish is thrown over a small wall into skips below. All of this means that: rubbish does not blow around onto nearby property, use of the centre in bad weather is a pleasure as the site is covered, no more steps to climb up with your rubbish by the side of each skip, in short a much more customer friendly experience than we currently have in Eastbourne.

In Peckham the centre is open very user friendly hours seven days a week from 8am to 8pm.

Contrast the Eastbourne experience where for example on Saturdays and Sundays it is only open from 8am to noon.

In recent years the local council have made great progress in other areas of recycling, now lets get serious about a truly resident friendly recycling centre.
