I WOULD like to explain to correspondent Ms Dorothy Forsyth (Herald, June 22), the difference between an accountant and an actuary, as she has blamed one for the mistakes of the other. An accountant produces accounts, and an actuary carries out actuarial work, such as the pension projections to which she refers. Please do not tarnish accountants with the mistakes of another profession. I might add actuaries are one of the highest paid professions. The majority of accountants would gladly swap pay cheques !
