Current roads too dangerous

I HAVE some limited sympathy with the regular letters of complaint, see last week for example, about cyclists on the pavements.

However the current situation is we have a series of good cycle routes, that I welcome, but then often followed by traffic calming measures that increase the danger by narrowing the road.

It is as if the local strategy is unclear what it is trying to achieve.

I can understand why most residents simply find the current road network too dangerous to go on a bike.

Having just got back from the Netherlands I can see that if a decent comprehensive cycle network is provided then all ages can use it.

I expect if we had the same here we would have less traffic on school runs and into town.

It just seems such a healthy and environmentally sensible solution for everyone.
