I have been prompted to write after reading the article in the Herald of September 30 relating to the council spending £100,000 on printing and photocopying in the last 12 months.
This amounts to at least £1 per head of the town’s population. This figure could be greatly reduced if those who send out the electoral registration forms delayed them until the last week of September, thus removing the need to send reminders at that time.
Why on earth do they send them so early, when it’s obvious that by the time October arrives they will have been mislaid or forgotten?
To those people I say, let’s be more sensible next year and send them later, and reduce wasting taxpayers’ money by NOT sending unnecessary reminders.
