Clearing up blood donor confusion

In response to the letter from Rob MacNeill (‘Donor session change made my blood boil’, Herald, August 26), we would like to address some of the issues he raised.

I would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused to Mr MacNeill. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the planned blood donor session at the Winter Garden on August 19 was rescheduled at short notice for the day before.

Measures were put in place to inform as many donors as possible. All donors who had made an appointment were called and asked to attend on the new date. If they couldn’t attend their appointment was re-arranged for a different session.

NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) also requested the change of date was communicated via local radio stations and session posters in nearby shops were amended where possible.

The session was a success given the circumstances, with 113 donors attending and 102 donations collected and we are extremely grateful to all donors who were able to attend the new date at such short notice.

NHSBT visits Eastbourne on a regular basis – 30 sessions are planned over the course of the year, split between the two venues we have in the town. All of these sessions are open to the public.
