Cigarette case mystery find

I RECENTLY dug up, literally, a cigarette case from 1904. I have no idea how it got there, but I have a few clues.

On the inside is engraved ‘New Hotel Eastbourne-Billiard Handicap-1st Prize-Dec.1904.’ On the outside, are the initials JDB.

All of my searches for New Hotel Eastbourne lead me to England.

This hotel may no longer exist, but I’m hoping that you might be able to point me in the right direction.

Are there any local historical societies or museums that might have records of hotels or archived newspapers from that era?

It’s unlikely, I know, but it would be great if I could find out who this JDB is and if that person may have any descendants.
