Beachcomber site falls to developers

HAVING bravely fought off a local epidemic of greed and self-interest, the Beachcomber in Seaford has finally succumbed to the might (wealth) of property developers.

With glorious sea views and the adjacent playing fields of the Salts, the Beachcomber was a popular family restaurant/public house until illness struck a few years ago.

Against local opposition (why do we bother?) the Beachcomber has finally received planning permission to be demolished and replaced with a care home (yes, another one) to fill the gap and complete a seafront of mostly care/retirement homes.

This marks the end of any hopes to retain and expand a community development there, to be enjoyed by all age groups, which could have encouraged Seaford’s tourism and small businesses.

Yet again, it is property developers who are developing Seaford, for their benefit, not ours, and sadly there seems we can do about it.
