Apologies for use of incorrect name

When I returned yesterday from my sister’s funeral in South Africa, I was alerted to a mistake in my campaign leaflet for the Polegate North by-election.

My sister died very unexpectedly and I had to help my brother in law with arrangements for her remains to be returned to South Africa.

I am very sorry that in my distress and haste I did not realise I had used an incorrect name in my leaflet.

I should have stated that I am a member of the Polegate Community Association and not the Polegate Residents Association.

There was absolutely no intention to mislead voters. My leaflet clearly says at the top of the front page that I am the Labour candidate and the Labour Party Logo is very clear and bold at the end of the leaflet.

I wish to apologise to the people of Polegate North for this inadvertent error. My team has ceased distributing these leaflets.

Alex Mthobi, Labour Party Candidate for Polegate North, School Lane, Polegate.
