CHILDREN across East Sussex are getting in tune for Christmas.
More than 80 schools across the county are taking part in a series of concerts as part of the Great Big Christmas Sing, organised by the County Council’s East Sussex Music Service.
Around 3,500 school children from Eastbourne, Lewes, Crowborough and Hastings and the surrounding areas are singing in 13 concerts between now and December 9. They will be joined by Youth Ensembles from the East Sussex Music Service.
The Big Sings include a light-hearted musical for children and adults in an unusual adaptation of the Christmas story.
Entitled Begin Again at Bethlehem!, the musical follows 10 wise men on a quest to follow a mysterious star.
It features songs sung by local children with support from the county’s music ensembles and groups.
Two of these concerts - at the Congress Theatre in Eastbourne with the East Sussex Brass Band - have already taken place.
But there are still more in store at venues in Eastbourne, Tunbridge Wells, Bexhill-on-Sea and Hastings.
The next Eastbourne concert is taking place at the Congress Theatre on December 7, at 5.30pm and 7.30pm. Tickets cost £5, call 412000.
Councillor John Barnes, chair of the East Sussex Music Management Committee, said, “These concerts guarantee great entertainment for all the family and are a brilliant opportunity for the county’s school children to get into the Christmas spirit.
“They also provide a wonderful showcase for the talented musicians from the East Sussex Music Service, who work extremely hard to ensure the audiences are treated to a great night out.
“I’d advise anyone interested in going along to grab a ticket while they still can.”
The East Sussex Music Service provides music tuition and teaching alongside a host of concert groups, choirs, wind bands and ensembles.
The Great Big Christmas Sing takes place every year to showcase musical talent.
