Wyntercon returned for another year

Lightsabers, dragons and superheros and villains were in abundance at Eastbourne's Princes Park this weekend as Wyntercon made a welcome return.

Celebrating it’s fifth year in business, the multi-genre, family-friendly science fiction and fantasy convention staged a variety activities including a Jedi fight academy, circus skills, a huge steampunk zone and photo opportunities with props from popular franchises such as Game of Thrones and Dr Who.

Attracting around 3,500 people, fans got into the spirit of things dressing up in costumes from their favourite films and franchises including Star Trek, Star Wars and the Marvel and DC comics.

Organisers provided a strictly limited number of wide-ranging small businesses the opportunity to showcase their wares in costume making, print memorabilia, medieval swords, role-playing games, cosplay, balloons and even falconry.

But first and foremost they tried to create a wonderful atmosphere, offering dazzling entertainment for everybody through the wonderful world of fantasy.

Andy Kybett, founder and trustee of Wyntercon, said: “As our motto says so clearly, It doesn’t matter what world you come from your welcome in ours.”

Wyntercon is a not-for-profit charitable organisation which supports and encourages those from under-privileged backgrounds and helps them thrive within the creative media sector and be part of their local community.
