WWF calls on town to enjoy Wear it Wild

In a bid to help protect threatened wildlife around the world, WWF is challenging the people of Eastbourne to Wear it Wild on May 27.

WWF’s annual fundraising event Wear it Wild, supported by players of People’s Postcode Lottery, is challenging local businesses, schools and individuals to show their wild side once again and don animal-inspired fancy dress.

Whether it’s colleagues at work sporting their tiger stripe jumpers, or children at school going wild in their leopard print onesies, WWF is urging everyone to Wear it Wild for a day and love wildlife forever.

Charlotte Bagg, spokesperson for WWF-UK, said, “Sadly in the last 40 years, global wildlife populations have declined by half.

“More than 95 per cent of the world’s wild tiger population has vanished in the last century, slashing numbers to as few as 3,200. And there’s only around 5,000 black rhinos in the wild today!

“The situation is desperate but we’re determined to change this trend. We have the tools and knowledge to help protect our incredible wildlife but we need the people of Eastbourne to help us to do it.

“By taking part in Wear it Wild, not only will you have a lot of fun, you’ll also be raising awareness and much needed funds to help WWF’s work to protect these precious yet threatened species and the habitats we all rely on.”

There are lots of ways to get involved with Wear it Wild.

The charity is urging fundraisers to judge the best tiger stripes and leopard spots with a fancy dress competition on the day.

The charity also suggests a bake sale with animal themed treats or a wildlife quiz.

The more energetic fundraisers could take part in the animal Olympics to find out who’s the fastest, strongest, highest jumper, or longest distance traveller.
