Police are seeking witnesses after a woman was assaulted following a night out in Eastbourne.

The 22-year-old local woman had been walking home with friends when she came across an altercation between a group of men. She attempted to intervene, at which point she was punched in the face.

The victim attended Eastbourne District General Hospital, where she required stitches for a cut lip.

The incident is reported to have occurred in Langney Road between 4am and 5am on Tuesday, July 26.

The suspect is described as a man of North African descent, aged 22 or 23, and about 5ft 5ins tall. He was an average build and had hair short, straight, dark hair.

Police would like to speak to anyone – particularly those involved in the altercation – about what happened.
