Woman hit in face with motorbike helmet in park attack

Police are appealing for witnesses to an assault on a woman in the Archery recreation ground in Eastbourne between 4pm and 5pm on Monday 4 August.

The 50-year old local woman was verbally abused by a group of youths and struck in the face with a motorcycle helmet, causing heavy bruising. She did not require hospital treatment.

PC Jon Attfield of the Eastbourne Neighbourhood Policing Team said “This particularly nasty incident took place near to the play area. It is possible that someone saw this happen and we urge them to come forward to assist with our enquiry”.

The suspect is described as a white man, about 18, of slim build with short brown hair.

Eastbourne Police ‘Operation Blitz’ patrols have been targeting the recreation ground in recent weeks, following local community reports of groups of youths gathering and behaving anti socially.

Police patrols continue in the area and residents near to the play park have been visited to discuss the recent issues.
