Meads and Old Town Ward Councillors have agreed to donate money to the Wish Tower to help boost community activities for school children.
Cllrs Caroline Ansell, David Elkin and Barry Taylor agreed to donate £500 from the Meads Ward Devolved Budget and Cllrs Janet Coles, Carolyn Heaps and John Ungar agreed to do the same from the Old Town Ward after receiving a request from the Wish Tower Friends Committee and Eastbourne Can.
The money has contributed to new torches, signs and school activity sheets among other items and it will allow the local community and visitors to discover more of the history and significance of the Wish Tower.
Elizabeth Crew, a committee member of the Wish Tower Friends, said, “We are so grateful for the donation, it has really helped us get the tower ready for visitors and ensure our visitors are safe on their tours.”
Cllr Taylor said, “The Wish Tower Friends do a wonderful job and I’m glad we have contributed to making the tower more accessible to visitors.”
The Wish Tower will be open for tours this weekend (September 13-14) to celebrate 20 years of Heritage Open Days events.
