The Friends of the Wish Tower have been awarded a grant from Awards for All Lottery Funds for a community arts and heritage project.
The friends are working with Bexhill and Hastings based artists Mary Hooper and Elise Liversedge. It involves asking residents predominantly from the Devonshire Ward in Eastbourne to explore what makes them feel part of their community or place, and equally what makes them feel excluded from it.
Artists Elise and Mary will be running workshops where anyone can come along and contribute to the creation of a community focused online scrapbook of day-to-day lives and experiences in Eastbourne.
Organisers hope to create a fun and unique way of capturing a sense of a place, recording memories for now and future generations.
Dates and venues for the workshops are 11am to 3pm on July 29 at the Towner Art Gallery, and 11am to 3pm July 30 at Leaf Hall Community Arts Centre in Seaside.
The workshops will also explore how we identify and locate ourselves looking at the use of flags and specifically designing a flag for the Wish Tower.
A competition to design a flag will be running at Leaf Hall Community Arts Centre and Eastbourne Library on Grove Road. Budding flag designers can pick up a postcard, draw in their flag designs and post in the box provided.
It is open to all ages and the closing date is August 27. Judging will take place on September 3 from 11am to 4pm at Leaf Hall.
