Winds force sponsored pier swim cancellation

A SPONSORED swim between Eastbourne and Hastings piers had to be cancelled due to strong winds.

Local swimmers Nicky Wood, Andy Bailey and Richard Ciecierski were hoping to tackle the tides last Wednesday in a bid to raise £3,000 for St Michael’s Hospice, based in St Leonards. However, the trio had to shelve the attempt because high winds meant it was unsafe. They have rescheduled the swim for Wednesday, September 26. The fundraisers will set off at 7.30am from the east side of the remains of Hastings Pier and swim with a pilot boat to just the far side of Eastbourne Pier. Very few people have attempted this swim, but they are hoping to equal the feat of Dale Martin and the late Simon Brampton, who did it in just five and a half hours back in 1993.
