LACE CLUB: Triangle Lace Club members will be meeting at Trinity Church Hall in Coppice Avenue from 10am to 2pm to-morrow Saturday February 13. This is an active friendly club promoting all forms of bobbin lace. All lace makers of any age are welcome. There is a trade stand with lace supplies and equipment and guidance on the art of lace making can be given. The cost including refreshments, raffle and insurance is £5. RUGBY: The Wheatsheaf in Willingdon Village is showing all six nations rugby matches on their big screen. Saturday February 12 is the start of round 2 when France will be playing Ireland at 2.25pm and Wales will be playing Scotland at 4.50pm. The Italy v England match is at 2pm on Sunday February 14.

WILL READ: is a regular performer at the Wheatsheaf’s Wednesdays open mic nights. He will also be entertaining customers on Saturday February 13 from 8.30pm.

THE WHEATSHEAF: will shortly be closed for minor refurbishments and a spring clean but are hoping that it won’t affect their customers too much. On Sunday February 14 the pub will be closed from 4pm; on Monday February 15 it will be closed all day and on Tuesday February 16 it will be closed until 4.30pm but will then be open until 11pm so that the weekly quiz can still go ahead. On Wednesday February 17 the Wheatsheaf will be closed until 4.30pm but will then open from 4.30pm to 11pm so that the jam night can still go ahead. The pub will be closed all day Thursday February 18 and also on the Friday morning and will finally re-open in the afternoon. In the evening nibbles will be available for all their customers. It is hoped that a new menu will soon be available but in the meantime bar snacks such as cold pies, scotch eggs and sausage rolls will be on sale.

A QUIET DAY: will be held at St Mary’s Church Willingdon from 10.30am to 4pm on Saturday February 13. It will be led by the Very Revd Pete Wilcox, Dean of Liverpool and will be based on the four Gospel Passion narratives in preparation for Lent. Coffee will be served at 10am and at lunchtime. Please bring a packed lunch and £5. All are welcome.

RAMBLING: Willingdon Church Ramblers will be meeting at Chalk Farm in Coopers Hill at 10.30pm on Monday February 15 for a flat circular walk from Hellingly to Horam along the Cuckoo trail – about six miles in all. Take a packed lunch although there should be the opportunity for a drink or a snack in the village. Everyone is welcome.

LENT COURSES: will be starting at St Mary’s Church Willingdon at 7.30pm on Tuesday February 16 and then at the same time on the following Tuesdays:- February 23, March 1, 8 and 15. For those who prefer an afternoon session, the courses will be repeated on the Wednesdays at 3.15pm with the exception of Wednesday March 9 when there will be no session.

LIFESTYLE :is a sub-section of Willingdon WI and they have a full programme of talks and other events during the year. They meet at Willingdon Memorial Hall on the third Thursday in the month at 2.15pm at a charge of 50p which includes tea and biscuits. Their next meeting is on February 18 when the talk will be given by Jenny Wootton on the history of Wannock Tea Gardens.

WILLINGDON PROBUS CLUB: will be meeting at 10.15am for 10.30am on Thursday February 18 at the Red Lion in Willingdon Village. The speaker is Eric Tucker.

THE FRIENDLY CUPPA’ :with hearing aid servicing will be held from 10.30am to 12pm on Thursday February 18 in St Mary’s Church Hall Willingdon.

TRINITY DINERS: The next lunch at Trinity Church hall in Coppice Avenue Willingdon is on Friday February 19. Doors open at noon. The menu is fruit juice, luxury fish pie or a vegetarian shepherdess pie, seasonal vegetables followed by Bakewell tart and cream, tea/coffee. The meals are £5.50. POLEGATE AND WILLINGDON Local History Society: will be meeting from 7pm to 9pm on Friday February 19 at St John’s Church Hall Polegate. Brian Halford is the speaker and his topic is the Spa Valley Railway. All visitors are welcome. The fee is just £3.

LONE STAR LINERS: will be having a line dance social from 7.15pm to 10.30pm on Saturday February 20 at Willingdon Memorial Hall in Church Street. LINE DANCE CLASSES: Ros Burtenshaw also teaches line dancing so that the Lone Star Liners can enjoy their social evenings even more. On Mondays Ros teaches at St Saviour’s and St Peter’s Church in Spencer Road Eastbourne. Beginners come to the 10.30am to 11.15am class followed by the improvers from11.30am to 12.30pm. On Tuesdays Ros is teaching the intermediates from 11.30am to 1pm at Willingdon Memorial Hall in Church Street. She is at the Memorial Hall again on Fridays when it is the turn of the beginners from 10am to 10.50am followed by the improvers from 11am to 12pm.
