The East Sussex Federation of the Women’s Institute will hold their annual conference in Eastbourne on March 25 as the Women’s Institute nationally celebrates its centenary year.
More than 600 delegates are expected at the East Sussex division’s annual conference at the Winter Garden’s Floral Hall, at which Women’s Institute members will get together to listen to speakers, find out the latest news regarding the county federation and enjoy mixing with members from all over the county, as well as celebrating the centenary of the Women’s Institute.
The Women’s Institute’s 100th birthday will mark a hundred years since the women’s group was formed during the First World War to encourage women to become more involved in producing food whilst men were away at war.
The two guest speakers at this year’s annual conference are Mary Gwynn and Mark Stacey.
Mary Gwynn is a member of Hartfield Medway Women’s Institute in East Sussex and author of The WI Cookbook: The First 100 Years, published to celebrate the centenary, which she will be signing copies of during the event.
Mark Stacey is an antique expert from various television programmes such as Antiques Road Trip and Flog It!
Anyone interested in joining the Women’s Institute or attending the event should contact Vicky Booth, the East Sussex Federation meeting organiser, on 01323 442592 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
