This is why a helicopter was flying low over Eastbourne last night

The Coastguard has explained why a helicopter was seen flying low over the Old Town area last night (November 22).

The search and rescue helicopter joined crews from Eastbourne, Birling Gap, Bexhill, Newhaven and Shoreham to help police search for a missing person at about 7pm last night.

Newhaven Coastguard wrote on its Facebook page, “Team called along with Eastbourne, Birling gap, Bexhill and Shoreham teams also Rescue helo 173 to search the Eastbourne area for a missing person, and to assist police with a incident in another location.

“Thanks to the public in the Old Town golf course area and north for your understanding whilst the helicopter and search teams were in the area searching. Both casualties were found and all units stood down at midnight.”

Sussex Police has been contacted regarding the second incident.
