Why are potholes still not being fixed?

TOO MANY potholes remain on Eastbourne’s roads, according to a concerned councillor.

Alan Shuttleworth, the newly-elected Liberal Democrat councillor for Langney, is now calling for an emergency road repair programme using money collected through Eastbourne’s pay to park scheme.

Councillor Shuttleworth said he wants East Sussex County Council to review its procedures and works programme to address what he calls the ‘poor state’ of roads within the town, and the money collected from parking meters in the town should be used to pay for it.

He said, “It really is quite unacceptable that many of Eastbourne’s roads are in such a state with so many potholes left unattended.

“These holes are a hazard to all road users and pedestrians. It is disgraceful that East Sussex County Council is taking many thousands of pounds as part of the Pay to Park policy but cannot manage to arrange for these essential repairs.”

Cllr Shuttleworth says areas which are particularly bad are Bourne Street, Tideswell Road, Ashford Road and Cavendish Place.
