A new menu introduced at Eastbourne Wetherspoons pub has seen prices rise as tourists turn-out for Airbourne.

Locals have criticised the price rise as a cynical move to make the most of the crowds.

Commenting on Facebook, Eastbourne resident David Sid Poole, said, “Wetherspoons has put 20p on top of the price of a pint for the influx of tourists we’ll get for Airbourne.”

Another resident, Tony Freebody said, “I wouldn’t mind if they were up front and donated the 20p to local charities, but they are ripping off local residents and visitors to the town.”

Sandy Boyce-Sharpe, added “Got their comeuppance with thunder, lightening and rain today then, instead of tourists and Hurricanes!”

A spokesman for Wetherspoon said: “The pub has operated this event menu for the last four to five years, in Eastbourne.

“Aware of how incredibly busy the outlet becomes, during this event period, there is an obvious demand for increased staff numbers, to ensure and maintain a good level of service.

“The slightly higher prices reflect the need to accommodate increased staff levels and the restricted menu is in place to ensure speed of service for our customers.”
