THE FAMILY of a two-year-old spina bifida sufferer are organising a wedding dress ball for the charity which has provided them with support.
Little Sophia Wood, pictured, and her family have received support from SASBAH, which helps people with spina bifida and hydrocephalus.
Now they hope to raise money for the charity with a fundraiser at the Eastbourne Centre on March 3.
The event is a ‘wear your wedding dress ball’ and the Eastbourne Centre has kindly donated the use of the whole of the second floor for the fundraiser.
The seafront venue is also offering a raffle prize of a weekend for two at the hotel.
Sophia’s grandmother Ann Tutt, who is organising the event, said, “The Eastbourne Centre has been fantastic we are really grateful to them for their help.”
Jack Sparrow and David Beckham lookalikes are hoping to attend to meet and mingle with the guests.
A professional photographer, DJ and singer have also donated their time for the fundraising ball.
The family is still hoping a company will come forward and help decorate the venue for the event and is appealing to anyone who can donate prizes for the raffle.
Sophia is also getting ready for the evening and is looking forward to wearing her miniature wedding dress. She is also hoping to stand on her new splints for the first time in public and dance with her dad Gareth Wood on the evening.
Kerri Wood, Sophia’s mum, said, “People often say ‘I would love to wear my wedding dress again’ so we thought it would be a really nice idea.
“It is a dress that you put so much thought into and then you only wear it for one day.”
Ann added, “I can’t wait to see all the brides.”
The family hopes the event will raise cash and awareness of spina bifida.
Kerri said SASBAH supported her when she was pregnant and have provided her and Sophia the chance to share their experiences with people who are going through the same thing.
The charity recently sent the family on a respite holiday with other families.
Kerri said, “SASBAH has given us so much support with such a wide variety of things so it is nice to be able to give something back.”
The wedding dress ball will take place at 7.30pm. Tickets are £20 which includes dinner and dancing.
