Early morning mist has already given way to relentless sunshine that is expected to stay for much of the weekend, according to the Met Office.

Temperatures in Horsham are forecast to hit 32 degrees Celsius this afternoon, the same as its inland neighbour Crawley, at the top of the temperature charts.

Along the coast temperatures will decrease slightly but still remain very hot, with Chichester, Littlehampton, Brighton and Worthing all peaking at around 30 degrees Celsius.

It's going to be a scorching weekend

Further east, Eastbourne and Hastings should be comparatively cooler still, with highs of 28 degrees and 26 degrees Celsius respectively.

Some showers are possible later across some western areas.

Temperatures in London are forecast to hit 37 degrees Celsius - just one degree less than the highest temperature ever recorded in the UK, which was last year.

This evening will remain mostly clear but a small chance of showers in Sussex.

It might be time to ditch the duvets, with temperatures not expected to fall below 19 degrees Celsius.
