WEATHER WARNING: Heavy rain and 70mph gales expected on Easter Monday

The Met Office has released two severe weather warnings for the South East tomorrow (Monday March 28).

The weather service provider has upgraded its warning for strong winds from yellow to amber for Easter Monday with gusts of 60 to 70mph expected in the morning, particularly along the south coast.

A spokesman for the Met Office said: “Please be prepared for disruption to outdoor activities and travel, as well as the likelihood of fallen trees and temporary interruptions to power supplies.”

Persistent, heavy rain is also predicted throughout the morning with a risk of surface water flooding in some places.

However forecasters have predicted the rain and gusts are expected to ease off by the afternoon with the weather set to get a bit dryer and brighter.

Gales are expected to slow but it will still be breezy.

This evening (Sunday March 27) is also expected to be wet with heavy and persistent rain spreading from the south to all parts of Sussex before midnight.

Severe gales are also expect, especially near the coast.
