MOTORISTS are facing traffic delays following the part closure of a busy dual carriageway on the A22 near Hailsham.
Contractors are working this week to install a new water main to supply new homes in the town.
South East Water is set to carry out the £300,000 scheme to create the main along the northbound carriageway of the A22, just south of the Diplocks Roundabout to Hempstead Lane.
During the project, which is due to last seven weeks, the inside lane of the northbound carriageway will be closed from 7am to 7pm and speed restrictions of 30mph on both sides of the road will apply.
Hailsham Town Councillor Barry Marlowe has asked drivers to be patient during the essential works.
He said, “I do appreciate there will be some traffic problems especially in the morning and evening rush hours because it’s a very busy stretch of road. I can only ask motorists to be patient.”
James Smith, South East Water Delivery Manager, said: “We know this work will cause disruption to local residents and motorists which is why our contractor will work 12 hour shifts, seven days a week to ensure the work is completed as quickly as possible.”
