Volunteer helps deliver medicine to Alfriston care home

A Hailsham pharmacy has thanked a volunteer group after they helped transport vital medicine to an Alfriston nursing home last night (January 11).

While attempting to drop-off medicine at the Alfriston Court care home, delivery driver Alan Snatt found the road into the village had been blocked by flood water.

As he approached the closed road at around 5.30pm, he met volunteers with 4x4s who informed him of the severe flooding.

Mr Snatt, who delivers medicine on behalf of the Seaforth Pharmacy in Hailsham, said, “I explained to them what I was carrying and where I had to go and this young guy offered me a lift through the water in his 4x4.

“The water was really high and I don’t mind admitting it was a scary situation to be in.

“We got through and made the delivery. I just think it was a very nice thing for the guy to do and it deserves a bit of attention.

“We make a delivery to Alfriston Court almost every day while I’m on my rounds. There are around 30 residents there. It could have been a real problem if I couldn’t get through.”

Alfriston Road is still closed in both directions from the Drusilla’s Roundabout because of the flooding.

The village is still accessible through a diverted route from Seaford and businesses are still open.
