Eastbourne MP Caroline Ansell has attended the scene of a school fire to thank emergency services for their work this morning (October 12).
More than 60 firefighters spent the night tackling the blaze at the property in Milfoil Drive.
She said the school is trying to find a way to return children to classrooms as quickly as possible.
She said, ““This is terrible news for everyone at the school, but especially the pupils who will have to cope with disruption to their learning so early in the school year.
“Understandably pupils, parents and staff are very upset with what has happened but I’m sure the school will rebuild and go from strength to strength. It was also great to see that a school trip went ahead as planned despite the fire.
“Thanks must go to the emergency services for saving as much as they could in what was a serious blaze. Without their wonderful intervention, this would have been much worse.”
Police believe the fire may have been started deliberately at around 1am.
A 14-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of arson and is in police custody.
