The group – which consisted of four caravans and cars – moved in to Westlords, off Willingdon Road, on Saturday night (September 8).

Police and Eastbourne Borough Council attended the scene over the weekend and the council has pinned a ‘notice of direction to leave’ on the field’s gate, insisting they leave by 11am on Tuesday.

When they had not left by 11am, police attended the scene and served a Section 62a notice on them to leave by 2pm.

The group finally moved on later that day (Tuesday).

They have been given the option of going to East Sussex County Council’s dedicated transit site at Bridies Tan, near Lewes.

A council spokesperson said a new lock is being arranged to ensure the site is secure and contractors will be arriving this morning to clear up any mess left behind.
