She moved to Willingdon as a teenager and went to Bexhill Grammar School. Following her teacher training, she lived in Lewes for many years and during that time campaigned for Lib Dem Norman Baker.

Moving back to Willingdon in the mid 1990s, Christine joined the local Liberal Democrat team. She was elected to Willingdon and Jevington Parish Council in May 2003 and served on that council until 2007, during which time she chaired the amenities committee. Christine was a long time governor of Willingdon Primary School and served as the tree warden for the parish from 2003 until her death.

Former Lib Dem MP Stephen Lloyd said, “Everything she did, she did with integrity and kindness. A great lass, our Christine. She left her mark in the sand.”

Willingdon and Jevington parish councillor, Andy Watkins, described Christine as ‘an excellent colleague’ and said he always valued her knowledge and contribution.

He added, “She will be missed.”
