Tribute to Eastbourne pensioner who fell from mobility scooter

The family of an Eastbourne pensioner who died from head injuries following a fall from his mobility scooter has paid tribute to him.

David Pilcher, 82, died following the incident on Thursday June 6.

An ambulance was called to Gildredge Park gate at Moatcroft Road, at around 4.30pm where Mr Pilcher, of Grange Road, was found lying unconscious at the bottom of some steps.

A statement on behalf of the family said, “Remembering a beloved husband, father and grandfather who was taken from us suddenly following injuries received in a bad accident on his much-loved mobility scooter on Thursday 6th June. You will be sorely missed as you were a major part of our lives.”

PC Stuart Watson, from the Road Policing Investigation Unit, said, “We are still very keen to hear from a woman who was seen reversing in a silver car with a baby on board. This woman kindly came to the assistance of Mr Pilcher and we would like to speak to her to try and gain more information on what exactly happened.

“The woman is described as in her late 20s to early 30s , around 5’ 5” tall, of slim build, with a bob-style haircut and wearing a pink jumper.

“We would also like to hear from anyone else who witnessed the incident and has not yet spoken to officers. Please call 101 quoting Op Thornwell or email”
