Tunnel collapse causes delays for rail commuters

RAIL COMMUTERS travelling from Eastbourne to London faced long delays this morning after a tunnel collapsed.

Balcombe tunnel had to be closed and is likely to be for the rest of today due to emergency repairs.

Southern Rail said as a result, no trains would be running between Haywards Heath and Three Bridges in both directions and rail replacement buses are running.

Eastbourne to London services are terminating at Haywards Heath and north of Three Bridges, services star and terminate at Three Bridges/Gatwick Airport.

A spokesperson for the rail company said, “We apologise for the inconvenience this is causing.”
