Railway services in Sussex will be “severely disrupted” for “the rest of the day”.
Southern Rail said a derailed train at Brighton and a signalling failure at Cooden Beach has caused disruption to services across Sussex this afternoon (April 15).
An empty passenger train derailed at Brighton at around 2pm this afternoon. Power to the lines in the Brighton area were switched off while staff attempted to move the train.
Southern Rail said it has started to run services (as of 4pm), but “disruption is expected to continue until the end of service”.
This has resulted in many services being delayed to and from Eastbourne, with some being cancelled.
