The collision came a week after the Express reported on concerns from residents about safety on the road – read more here.

Ian Gelder, who is spearheading the campaign, said: “This is yet another accident on Grove Hill.

“How many more must there be before the authorities listen to the residents’ concerns and impose a speed limit?

“Our campaign will continue until something is done.”

Mr Gelder recently met with local councillors and said they were investigating the possibility of installing vehicle volume and speed monitoring strips on the road.

He said: “We as residents could tell them that there are too many speeding vehicles on the road without installing strips, but we are grateful for this step forward and hope that this latest accident will encourage them and the Council to move swiftly on this.”

Mr Gelder previously said the C208 Grove Hill, which falls under the national speed limit, was designed as a ‘quiet, country lane’ and was not suited to the masses of the vehicles that now come hurtling down it.

“It’s narrow, there are no pavements, there’s lots of bends and hills and blindspots,” the 70-year-old said.

“It was never designed to take that amount of traffic.

“Trying to get out of your property, you literally take your life into your hands.”
