According to Southern Rail, trains running to and from Eastbourne station may be cancelled or delayed by up to ten minutes.

Passengers have been asked to continue to travel using their usual route but 'may wish to allow extra time', due to delays or late notice alterations.

A spokesperson said: "We have been advised of a track circuit failure at Eastbourne. This means the signalling system is unable to automatically verify if the next section of the track, past the affected signal, is clear.

"Whilst this issue is ongoing, train crew will stop at the affected signal and contact the signalling centre to confirm their location. At this point, the signaller will verbally authorise the driver to continue towards the next signal.

"This process adds time to every train's journey, which means services can experience short delays."

Disruption is expected to last until 9am.
