Train stations set for new ticket machines

RAILWAY stations at Polegate and Pevensey will get new ticket machines in October.

The machines are part of a £3.1m investment to install an additional 156 new ticket machines at Southern stations by the end of Jan 2012.

Pevensey and Westham and Polegate stations will get the new ticket machines next month.

Michelle Nelson, Southern’s project manager, said, “We’ve already installed 67 new ticket machines at our Sussex stations this year and 30 across the network last year.

“This is the next stage in providing equipment which will cut down queuing times at ticket offices for our passengers.”

Southern also has plans to introduce extras to every ticket machine.

Michelle said, “You’ll be able to buy your car park tickets from ticket machines later this month and we have plans for further improvements such as pop-up screens showing engineering works and information regarding timetable changes when there are special events such as the November bonfire events or even our Christmas period services.”

The ticket machines will also show passengers train times from the station they are buying the ticket from, and unlike now, passengers will be able to buy tickets to enable them to travel from a different station, not just the one where they are using the ticket machine.
