Toytown was established in 2009 by Ginette McGee, with the help of her husband Daeron, a local optician, to bridge the gap left by the closure of Woolworths and other shops at the height of the recession, which had left them struggling to find toys and gifts for their four young children.

Fearing for the future of high street shopping, their intention was to provide a destination for children and their parents to enjoy a traditional shopping experience, and to demonstrate to potential shopkeepers that there is a future in high street retailing.

Seaford is now considered to be a good shopping destination, bucking the trend with very few empty shops, and attracting visitors from across the South East. Further branches were added in the last two years, bringing the Toytown fun to new people.

Ginette said, “We are immensely proud to have won this award, and thank our team of ‘elves’ whose efforts have made this happen. We are especially grateful to our loyal customers whose support has made Toytown an integral part of the community.”
