Sixth formers at the town’s private schools have been celebrating their A level results.
The pass rate at Moira House has risen this year to 95 per cent, with 35 per cent achieving A* and A, and 62.5 per cent achieving A*, A and B. A total of 81.3 per cent achieved A* - C.
High achievers included Amy Zhang with one A* and three As, Emma Grace with an A* and two As, Moonzia Alam with one A* and two As and Susan Su with an A*, two As and a C.
Emma Grace, who will be reading medicine at Bristol University, said, “I am so happy, I can’t believe it.”
Moonzia Alam, who will be reading psychology at University College London, added, “I’m over the moon.”
More than 78 per cent of all grades were A* - B at Eastbourne College and more than 50 per cent of those were awarded were A* or A grades.
Headmaster Simon Davies said, “The headline figures are excellent, especially compared with the underlying ability of the year group.
“The girls and boys have worked very hard and those who have taught and mentored them have worked very hard too.”
Superb individual performances came from Edward Lewis with four A*s and Jason Tam with three A*s and two A,
Bede’s sixth formers were also celebrating after 68 per cent of art students achieved A or A* grades and 63 per cent of modern foreign language students achieving the same. A total of 45 per cent of maths and further maths pupils achieve A or A* grades.
Praise was given to Asher Pearl who, aside from achieving straight A* grades in his four A levels, scored 100 per cent in more than half of his maths, further maths, physics and chemistry modules.
Similar accomplishments at Bede’s include Amy Camp from Polegate, who achieved A* grades in biology and chemistry, A grades in Latin and English Literature and a B grade in maths.
