Thirty men dressed in drag paraded through the town centre to raise cash for St Wilfrid’s Hospice last weekend.
The Dame for a Laugh event is thought to have raised an impressive £5,000 for the new £11.5m hospice which has just been built off Broadwater Way. The money will help to furnish some of the in-patient rooms.
Among the male hospice supporters was the Mayor of Eastbourne Cllr Mike Thompson who swapped his trousers for a frock. Shoppers watched as the 30 men took part in the sponsored event and shook their St Wilfrid’s Hospice collection buckets.
This was the first Dame for a Laugh but organisers are hoping it will become an annual fundraiser and be bigger and better in 2014.
The next fundraiser for the hospice is the annual Jim Jam Walk – a 10k walk along the seafront next month.
