Tesco gets licence to sell alcohol

Supermarket giant Tesco has been granted a licence to sell alcohol at the store it wants to open in the former council offices in Grove Road.

Despite massive opposition from residents and objections from Sussex Police, councillors of the licensing committee gave the Tesco application the green light at a meeting on Monday night.

The news is sure to cause controversy after a struggling shop keeper in nearby Terminus Road opposite the railway station was refused permission to be able to sell alcohol, despite his shop being the former Thresher’s Off-Licence.
