COUNCIL MEETINGS: On Monday the Planning and Highways Committee will meet at 7.30pm in the Civic Centre. Please Note, if there is insufficient business, meetings may be cancelled. Please therefore telephone the Civic Centre on 01273 589777 to ensure that the meeting is being held. Meetings are open to members of the public who are able to ask questions for a 15 minute period at the start of each meeting.

FOOTNOTES: It is definitely a sign of old age, when the diary has a plethora of appointments with opticians, chiropodists, (they call themselves something else now, but you know what I mean), blood tests, etc. This week has seemed particularly full for some reason. Lightened a little by a trip to Eastbourne to my writing group for refreshment and some ideas. I had a telephone call from a friend, who has just had a spell in hospital, and whose only complaint was that he couldn’t use his laptop, whilst he was there. He is in his mid-eighties and many years ago, insisted that his youngest grandson teach him the ins and outs of the computer world. As a result he is now quite the expert. What a change from some other elderly friends of mine whose world apparently ended when the internet was invented. I listen to them complain that they are too old, although many are younger than me, they can’t be expected to learn anything new. As though their brains came to a full stop when they reached a certain age. They can’t afford it despite computers being freely available at the local library. They remind me of an elderly aunt, who was always complaining about her black and white TV. Eventually, after some prompting from my mother, I bought her a colour TV. Visiting one evening, I asked why the set was turned to black and white reception. ‘Ah well’, she said, ‘My favourite programme is on later and I want to save the colour’.
